Happy Half Birthday! 2 1/2 Today!

Half a birthday cake for Jeffrey's half birthday!

This cutie pie is 2 1/2 already! He is becoming incredibly articulate, surprising us all the time with his complex thoughts, questions and sentences. I can take him anywhere and we make it work as he learns how the world works. So much fun.
He moved to a big boy bed in plenty of time to be ready for baby. The very first thing he did after we "revealed" the new room and Cars poster above his bed was move all his stuffed animals from his little bed to the big bed. It took several trips back and forth. There were a few rough naps and bedtimes, wanting to be back in his, "little bed," but now he's doing great in his new room.
For some reason, this morning we talked about how Lightening McQueen was on his birthday cake. He told me he wants Mater on his next birthday cake. Then I realized that today is his half birthday and because I LOVE a new cake recipe I've been making, (and because I am eating for 4,) I am making him a birthday cake as he naps! I'm pretty sure Brant is enjoying all the cookies, cakes and new dinner recipes I am making.

Some funny things I want to remember from the past couple of weeks:
  • Anytime we see a Jeep on the road, he says, "Look, there's Sarge!"
  • Often at dinner, "this is YUMMY, Mama!" or "This is SO GOOD!" Brant tells him to keep it up, that he knows how to work it!
  • "Do a song of it"-I put lots of things to songs, some educational, some not... his favorites are a song for each "Cars" character.
  • While looking at books, "I'm reading about ___, Mama."
  • He lost some little cars and looks around the house saying, "Where all those guys are?"
  • He misses Daddy during the day and out-of-the-blue states, "I miss Daddy," and "Daddy's a work." We talk about why Daddy is at work and it may be sinking in. One day I said, "Why does Daddy go to work?" He said, "To bring money for us."
  • When eating watermelon with the deer on the front porch, one of the deer snorted. Jeffrey said, "Bless you, deer!"
  • He got a pretty horrible hair cut and we called him Lloyd Christmas for a few days. Turns out the barber has been at that same shop for 30 years and Uncle John used to avoid him. Bo also goes there and sometimes gets that guy, but tries not too. Ha. We'll be going back to our Margo next month!
  • He says "Clifford the Red Big Dog" EVERY time
  • He got up too early a few times during the bed transition and argued whether or not it was "mornin'" and if the sun was up. He also argues that Bo is not in school during the day because he really wants him to come play.
  • He LOVES his stuffed animals. I tell him he may grow up to be a veterinarian like Doc. He says, "Doc Hudson?" whenever I talk about Doc. So abstract for him. Sad for me.
  • "I love (insert stuffed animal here.) He's SO soft!"
  • He went through a while when he was asked "What's it made of?" when talking about clothes, the wall, anything!
  • "What's that truck carrying?" in the car, talking about an 18-wheeler
  • "What's that sign mean?" He asks this one a LOT. I guess he's realizing that letters make words and words have meaning!
  • "When the baby come out?"
  • "Are you doing up downs?" That's what we call squats.
  • "Are you doing yoga?" Whenever I'm stretching, usually
  • Women were training with a trainer in the neighborhood park, "Look! They're doing yoga!"
New "big boy bed!"
A special Saturday night. Brant made burgers on the grill and we ate in the living room on TV trays while watching football. He loved it!
Lunch with Gigi after church
Jeffrey walked into the kitchen as I was making breakfast and had a bloody nose. You can't tell, but the blood was everywhere and it didn't bother him at all. He just kept wiping it away, so by the time I saw him, it was on his hands, clothes, dripped on the floor....
